Computer Security Solutions is proud to announce that ESET launched version 4.0 of both ESET Smart Security and ESET Antivirus today!

As usual, customers who have a valid license for current products (be that version 2.7 or version 3.0) are able to download and install the latest v4.0 of their product for FREE. This means you can upgrade to the latest v4.0 antivirus if you have a valid antivirus license - and that you can move to v4.0 ESET Smart Security if you have a valid ESET Smart Security license.

Unlike many other anti-threat vendors, ESET is committed to zero-cost ugprades within the same product family to it's loyal customers - this means that unlike "the other guys" - there will be no "upgrade fee" to get the latest, greatest protection - you have already paid by your original purchase, or purchase of a renewal license.

Email communication in the Marshall Islands was paralyzed Tuesday after hackers launched a "zombie" computer attack on the western Pacific nation's only Internet service provider, officials said.

The attack starting early Tuesday, in which hackers used computers taken over by viruses to flood the Internet provider with spam emails, caused a complete shutdown of email traffic into the nation of around 55,000 people.

More than 18 hours after the initial attack Tuesday incoming email service to the monopoly provider had still not been restored.

The government-owned National Telecommunications Authority (NTA) was hit with a sudden four-fold increase in incoming email, which it described as an attack by "zombie computers", said an NTA spokesman.

While NTA customers could send and receive emails to each other through the local system, virtually no non-NTA emails had been received since Monday, impacting local businesses, banks and government offices.

"Some malevolent person unleashed infected computers to flood NTA with mail," said a local information technology expert who asked not to be named.

"The fact that there were so many messages sent shows a degree of sophistication to the attack."

Local officials said the cyber attack was believed to be the first on the country's only Internet service provider.
Detects 100 Percent of Viruses, Worms and Bots with Zero False Positives

San Diego, June 4, 2008 - ESET®, the leader in proactive threat protection, today announced it has captured a record 50th VB100 award from Virus Bulletin, a widely-respected independent comparative testing group. ESET is the first company to reach the 50-award milestone.

Virus Bulletin introduced its first VB100 award in 1998, and conducts several comparatives every year, rotating its platforms between Linux, Windows, Windows servers and Novell Netware. In order to display the VB100 logo, an antivirus product must meet two criteria: (1) Demonstrate it detects all "In-the-Wild" viruses during both on-demand and on-access scanning; and, (2) Generate no false positives when scanning a set of clean files. Since the inception of VB100 awards in 1998, ESET's antivirus products boast a success rate of over 96 percent — the industry's highest. Most antivirus vendors have success ratios in the 50 – 75 percent range.

Microsoft has just snared a U.S. patent for proactive virus protection, which is how security software helps secure your PC when it encounters shape-shifting malware not already in its antivirus definition file. What I want to know is, what does this mean for all the other vendors -- like McAfee, Symantec, Kaspersky, and Trend Micro -- that have been selling proactive protection software for years? Do they now have to pay Microsoft protection; I mean, royalties?

Here's the quick low-down on the new Microsoft patent. Issued on June 20, patent number 7,376,970 is entitled "System and method for proactive computer virus protection." The inventor is Adrian Marinescu, who was at one point (maybe he still is) a lead developer on the Windows kernel team, heavily involved in the heap manager. He previously worked on Windows NT's object manager, which is a key software traffic-cop managing the interaction among all the executive kernel subsystems. All this is by way of saying that Mr. Marinescu clearly knows his operating-system internals.
Hall 6 at the CeBIT show in Hannover this week is packed full of anti-virus software manufacturers. If you count the number of anti-virus programs you know of, and times that number by 20, that’s how many are exhibiting at CeBIT this year.

The best of the lot is NOD32, though, according to Eset’s Richard Hlavatý. He says that his company’s program is much better than the likes of Norton, McAfee, Kaspersky and F-Secure. The reason he says, is NOD32’s unrivalled heuristic detection engine.
Just three years ago, Web Your Business opened a computer security division and named it ‘Computer Security Solutions.’ They are now proud to welcome their 10,000th customer with a free year of the antivirus product Nod32.

The lucky 10,000th customer was Richard Williams, a partner at Cabinets on Time, based in Spring, Texas. Richard Williams moved to Nod32 because of its lighter use of computer resources. "I switched to Nod32 over a year ago, because [other antivirus programs] were resource hogs,” said Williams. “Thanks, and you have a great product.”
